I’m sure you know that Thomas Edison was credited with inventing the lightbulb.

The story goes that he made nearly 10 000 prototypes of a lightbulb before he found one that worked to his satisfaction.

One of the biggest challenges was the choice of filament that provides the source of light.

Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his lab assistant complained, “All our work is in vain. We’ve learned nothing, I’m not sure if we will ever be able to harness the power of electricity properly.”

Edison replied very confidently, “Oh, on the contrary, my dear friend – we’ve come a long way and we have learned a huge amount. For example, we know that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb!”

A mistake is only a failure if you are unable to learn from it and apply the lesson. So, what lessons have you learned recently?
